Rui Vitorino Azevedo was born and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts (USA). He holds a B.A. from Clark University where he double majored in Languages and International Relations. He has been teaching English (both general and for specific purposes) for over 15 years at different universities throughout Lisbon. Some of the courses he has taught include Business English, English for Health Sciences, Nursing, Law, and the Social Sciences, among others.
In addition to his work at ILNOVA he is a lecturer of English and Translation at the Faculty of Letters, University of Lisbon. He is also a PhD candidate in Literary and Cultural Studies at that same faculty and has carried out research at ULICES (the University of Lisbon Centre for English Studies) since 2009. His areas of interest include contemporary American literature and culture, with a particular emphasis on immigration, ethnicity and identity in (Portuguese-American) autobiography. He is also passionate about translation and works as a freelance translator.
